MyDomain makes it possible for you to set up another company's
mail server to handle all email requirements for your domain. With
this service you all inquiries directed to our servers regarding
your domain for email will be directed to your MX service provider.
FYI-MX stands for MAIL EXCHANGER.
Requirements
In order to use another mail server, you will need the other company's
mail server hostname(s). The mail server's hostname will probably
take the format of mail.thatcompany.com, but check with the company
to be certain.
Creating your MX Profile
Once you have MyDomainPlus service(* see below for instructions
on on changing to MyDomainPlus) activated for your domain you can
set MX records so that another email server handles your domain's
mail service. To set your domain to use a third party mail server
follow these simple directions.
Setting up mail using a third party MX profile is quite easy,
but depending on your current settings, you may need to take different
steps:
1)For those users who have never used an MX profile before, please
follow the steps below:
Login to your member area and click on the domain name you wish
to use with the new MX provider. Click on "Edit Email Settings" then
when the next page loads click on "Advanced: Use a different
MX Profile" this will change the page to reveal the more advanced
MX options. From here you can enter the hostname that was provided
to you by your new MX provider, and set the distance. If this is
your only mail server, then the distance can simply be set to 0.
Now simply click the "Submit Query" button, then on the
next page click on the "Confirm Changes" button and the
change will be made. You can repeat this process to add other mail
servers, just remember that the distance set will determine which
server has priority.
Please allow up to 48 hours for the information to update.
2)For those users who have already setup an MX profile but only
wish to use the third party MX Profile now, please follow the steps
below:
Login to your member area and click on the domain name you wish
to use with your new MX provider. Click on "Edit Email Settings" then
when the next page loads click on "Advanced: Use a different
MX Profile" this will change the page to reveal the more advanced
MX options. To remove the current profile you need only enter the
host name provided by your MX service in the place of the current
hostname, and set the distance. If this is your only mail server,
then the distance can simply be set to 0. Now simply click the "Submit
Query" button, then on the next page click on the "Confirm
Changes" button and the change will be made.
Please allow up to 48 hours for the information to update.
3)For those users who have already setup an MX profile but have
gone back to using the MyDomain.com email forwarding system but
wish to use a third party's mail servers now, please follow the
instructions below:
Login to your member area and click on the domain name you wish
to use with your new MX provider. Click on "Edit Email Settings" then
when the next page loads click on "Advanced: Use a different
MX Profile" this will change the page to reveal the more advanced
MX options. Your old settings should still be listed. Now simply
click the "Submit Query" button, then on the next page
click on the "Confirm Changes" button and the change
will be made. If the information from your previous settings is
not already filled in, please go back to step 1, or 2.
Please allow up to 48 hours for the information to update.
* If you do not yet have MyDomainPlus services, please choose
the domain from your domain list. Once the next page has loaded
